Chin State

Geographically, Chin State is located in the western part of Burma bordering Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur states of India. It’s a beautiful mountainous region with orchids, rhododendrons, cherry trees, blooming roses and wild animals. Chin state is split into 9 different townships, with a population of approximately 500,000 Chin living there.

Chin people continue to flee to neighboring countries/states like Mizoram (in India) to escape forced labor and religious persecution. Christian religious leaders in the Chin State are often targeted with persecution and imprisonment because of the influence they wield. Religious leaders are warned not to talk about political freedom and social justice. These leaders often are imprisoned to frighten the civilians. It’s amply clear that the SPDC does not respect the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

See Escaping Chin State for more details.

WLC was able to work since 2005 soon after it was formed with the kind support of NRP by granting funds for office until 2009 June. Since 2009 October 23, 2009, up to June 2010, and hence forth the WLC is being supported by HART. WLC feel the warmth as it is being taken care by various international NGOs to be able to stand in the midst of needs for the people of Chin elsewhere especially in Chin state and in Mizoram. Besides the supports for the office running, WLC was being supports various ways throughout its age. Therefore, WLC members are very grateful to its supporters from various parts of the world.

Chin Women

Many Chin women shed tears silently because they are sexually and mentally abused by Burmese soldiers. These women are still the targets of the SPDC soldiers to be their wives, concubines or pleasure-women. Soldiers are given money or awards if they can father a child with a Chin woman.
