Background
The Women's League of Chinland (WLC) was formed on
December 4, 2004 as the outcome of the Seminar on "Strengthening Unity and Coalition Building Among Chin Women" where nine different Chin Women's Organizations attended the seminar.
The League became an umbrella organization where the women's groups based on the tribes and the Chin nationality.
The member organizations are:
- All Burma Democratic Lushai Women Organization (ABDLWO)
- Central Chin Women Organization (CCWO)
- Chin Women Organization (CWO) Delhi,
- Chin Women Union (CWU)
- Khumi Women Advancement Organization (KWAO)
- Mara Women Association (MWA)
- Matu Women Union (MWU)
- Zomi Women Union (ZWU)
- Zotung Women's Development Network (ZWDN)
- Lai Women's Progressive Association (LWPA) ( joined Nov 2007)
At the seminar, 8 Aims and Objectives of the newly formed WLC were also laid out:
- Strengthening Unity Amongst the Chin women
- Upliftment of women status in Chin community
- Promotion of democracy, freedom, peace and human rights in Burma
- Creating more opportunities for women's participation in social and political activities
- Greater effort to strengthen the genuine solidarity within the Chin nation
- To prioritise women's education, healthcare & social welfare
- Strengthening coalition with other national and international women's organizations
- Preservation of the Chin cultural and traditional observance and literature
